Children's Mental Health Week (3-9 February) is an awareness week launched by children's mental health charity, Place2Be. It exists to empower, equip and give a voice to all young people in the UK.

This year, the theme is 'know yourself, grow yourself.' Children and young people are encouraged to embrace self-awareness and explore what it means to them.

Our mission is to lead and co-ordinate the local response to reducing violent crime. A key part of this involves promoting positive activities and mental health among young people.

We offer a range of projects designed to support young people's wellbeing. Along with funded sports programmes and youth outreach, we run campaigns that focus on empowering young people to help them better 'know themselves.'

Listen to Us! (Trusted Adults)

This campaign focuses on giving trusted adults – such as teachers, coaches and family members – the skills and knowledge to effectively support young people who may be struggling.

We understand that it can be challenging to know how to approach a young person who is experiencing difficulties. Listen to Us! provides practical guidance on how to create a safe and supportive environment, actively listen to their concerns and offer appropriate support without judgement or pressure.

Talk to Us! (Trusted Adults)

Talk to Us! encourages young people to reach out to trusted adults for support. The campaign emphasises the importance of having someone to talk to when times get tough and the benefits of open communication and seeking help.

In the below video, young people share their experiences of finding a trusted adult and the positive effect it had on their lives.

Youth Connect

Youth Connect is a useful resource for young people in the Humber region. With over 250 local activities, it empowers them to explore new interests, develop skills and connect with their community. It also features support services so they can find the help they need.

The website encourages positive engagement and gives young people alternative pathways to explore, reducing the risk of involvement in crime or violence.

Anyone. Anywhere.

Anyone. Anywhere. tackles the important issue of healthy relationships. Developed with secondary school pupils in the Humber region, the campaign aims to raise awareness about the signs of unhealthy relationships and help young people make informed choices.

Resources include engaging lesson modules for schools, informative posters and a digital parent guide to spark conversations about healthy relationships.

Barnardo’s Social Skills Training

This programme focuses on developing essential social and emotional skills in young people. By improving social skills, self-control and emotional regulation, the programme aims to reduce the likelihood of involvement in crime and violence.

The training uses the Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP®) model, which is proven to enhance emotional wellbeing.

Education Partnership

This collaborative initiative brings together key stakeholders in education and safeguarding, including the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner, Humberside Police and local authorities.

The Education Partnership provides useful information and resources to educators, helping them address sensitive and complex issues within the school environment.
