When times get tough, it's important to have someone to talk to. It's especially important that you trust that person not to judge or expect anything from you.

Our Talk to Us! campaign encourages young people to reach out to a trusted adult for support. Or, you might just want to chat to them about whatever's on your mind.

Keep reading to discover the benefits of talking about your wellbeing. There's also some useful links to websites if you need more help and advice.

Are you an adult looking for advice on supporting a young person? Check out our Listen to Us! campaign page.

Contact the police on 101 if you are concerned about serious violence, have information or need to report an incident. In case of an emergency, call 999.

Who is a trusted adult?

A trusted adult is someone who plays an active and positive role in your life. They're like a friend or mentor who listens without judgment and wants to help you feel better.

Trusted adults can be found in many places, such as:

  • School: Teachers, counselors or other staff
  • Community groups: Youth clubs, sports teams or other organisations
  • Family: Relatives or friends
  • Places of worship: Religious leaders or members of your faith community

Why Talk to a Trusted Adult?

  • Get support: They can offer advice, encouragement and help you find the right help.
  • Reduce stress: Talking about your feelings can help reduce stress and anxiety.
  • Build relationships: Connecting with a trusted adult can give you a sense of belonging.

Watch this animated video to hear real stories from young people just like you. They share their experiences of finding a trusted adult and the positive effect it had on their lives.
