One of the core aims of Violence Reduction Units (VRUs) is to improve data sharing between agencies who play a role in tackling serious violence, including the police, local authorities, Youth Offending Teams and the local NHS. VRUs are also required to obtain access to a wide range of data to construct their Strategic Needs Assessments and target their commissioned projects.
Through a programme of engagement with our partners, we are seeking to understand the current status of data sharing and the priority use cases that could be enabled by increasing and improving data sharing.
The result will be a comprehensive baseline and a collection of impactful case studies that illustrate how better access to data will help our partners and the Violence Prevention Unit to prevent and reduce serious violence.
Our Information Management Strategy is now complemented by a Data Sharing Protocol between VPP members, which comprises of individual Information Sharing Agreements detailing what data is shared by each member and how often.
A shared system – the Common Data Platform – will be used to collate and share data between partners and combine it to give more than the sum of its parts. The system has been developed as a proof of concept and work is now underway to ingest data for use by the VPP partners.
