New learning resources on crime prevention and safety.

The Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner for Humberside has relaunched Not In Our Community (NIOC) to educate young people across the Humber region about crime prevention and safety.

Following a competitive tender process, the Police and Crime Commissioner for Humberside appointed Eski, a leading social impact media and marketing agency, to develop and deliver the NIOC programme.

Building on a decade of successful collaborations with schools, community organisations, and young people, NIOC is expanding its reach to address critical issues such as anti-social behaviour, unsafe relationships, and knife crime.

Aligning with the Police and Crime Plan

The relaunch of NIOC directly supports the Police and Crime Commissioner's Police and Crime Plan 2021-2025, which outlines a commitment to improving education and diversionary activities to stop more young people from falling into crime. NIOC is a key part of this strategy, providing young people with the knowledge and skills to make positive choices and avoid involvement in criminal activity.

Jonathan Evison, Police and Crime Commissioner for Humberside and Chair of the Humber Violence Prevention Partnership, said:

"I am delighted to see the relaunch of Not In Our Community. This initiative is crucial in helping to educate and empower young people to make positive choices. By working with organisations like Eski, we can deliver effective and impactful programmes that will make a real difference in our communities."

A Collaborative Effort

While developing the programme, Eski worked closely with our organisation. The Humber Violence Prevention Partnership shares NIOC’s aim of a safer Humber region where young people choose positivity over violence.

NIOC resources have been co-produced with input from schools, youth groups, and young people to make sure they are relevant and engaging. Eski has also worked with the Humber Education Partnership – which brings together partners involved in safeguarding, education, and early intervention – to create the resources for NIOC.

John Gilbert, founder of Eski, said:

“For over a decade, NIOC has at its heart a drive to help young children and young people protect themselves and people they know against situations that could cause them harm. Expanding the work across a wider range of safety issues makes sense, as in reality risks and their causes don’t exist in isolation. My team and I are very pleased that this partnership with young people and professionals will continue to grow and make a positive impact across the Humber.”

Key Sessions

NIOC offers a range of sessions for different needs:

  • Comprehensive education: Whole-class and school-wide educational programmes for years 6 to 11, covering general awareness and specific topics.
  • Staff and governor training: Introductory sessions to equip educators with the knowledge and tools to address youth safety concerns effectively.
  • Targeted workshops and focus groups: Tailored interventions for at-risk young people to provide support and guidance.

To request these sessions, please visit the NIOC website and submit a booking enquiry.

By expanding its reach and impact, NIOC aims to make a significant difference in the lives of young people in the Humber region.
