At the Humber Violence Prevention Partnership (VPP), we’re proud to speak up for women and girls this White Ribbon Day. We believe everyone has the right to feel safe, respected and equal at work, at home and in public spaces.

White Ribbon UK is a leading charity in England and Wales that works to end men's violence against women and girls by preventing it from happening in the first place. They do so by engaging men and boys to be part of the solution and by challenging harmful ideas about gender that lead to inequality and abuse.

As a 'White Ribbon Accredited Organisation,' we have made a clear commitment to preventing a culture that contributes to harassment, abuse and violence against women and girls. We know that this work starts inside our own organisation, in our conversations, our culture and in how we lead.

Violence against women and girls is the term used to describe different types of violence and abuse that most women and girls face. These include domestic abuse, sexual assault, stalking, harassment and catcalling and can happen both on and offline.

We’re encouraging everyone at the Humber VPP and our partners to speak up and support those who do. Because even the smallest action can make a big difference. Every time we ignore something that doesn’t feel right, we miss a chance to set a better example.

What does We Speak Up mean?

White Ribbon Day takes place each year on the 25 November and is followed by 16 days of action. The 2025 theme is 'We Speak Up.' This is a call to action, especially for men, to use their voices when they spot something that is not right. To challenge things such as sexist ‘jokes,’ ‘banter’ and comments that cross the line.

Crime statistics in England and Wales show that most violence against women and girls is committed by men. White Ribbon UK know that not all men are part of the problem, but they want all men to be part of the solution.

By speaking up, we can help create a world where everyone is safe, equal and respected.

What we’re doing at the Humber VPP

At the Humber VPP, this is not a one-off campaign. It is part of the culture we are building where people feel safe, supported and heard.
