Educating young people on the facts and fiction of knife crime

Though we do not currently have high levels of knife crime in the Humber region, young people are still exposed to harmful messages and misconceptions about carrying knives.

Social media and other influences can lead young people to believe that carrying a knife is a necessary form of protection. However, carrying a weapon is not a defence in law and can put you at greater risk of violence.

Our Campaign: Breaking the Cycle

To challenge this issue, the Humber Violence Prevention Partnership has launched a new campaign, Breaking the Cycle: Addressing Knife Crime Together. This campaign aims to educate young people about the dangers of knife crime and encourage them to make positive choices.

Campaign Resources

As part of this campaign, we have developed a range of resources to support young people, educators, and community members:

  • Informative Video: A powerful video featuring personal and professional accounts of knife crime.
  • Educational Materials: A comprehensive toolkit for young people, including discussion points and myth-busting information.
  • Professional Training: Training materials for professionals working with young people to help them address knife crime effectively.

Working Together for a Safer Future

By working together, we can help break the cycle of knife crime and create a safer future for our local communities. We encourage everyone to share these resources and promote the message that carrying a knife is never the answer.
