The Fair Play Football Programme is a long-standing initiative in North East Lincolnshire that harnesses the power of sport to inspire and support young people. Delivered at key community venues across the borough, the programme offers safe, inclusive, and engaging sessions that go far beyond football.
Current venues include:
- West Marsh Community Centre
- Fusion Boxing
- Trin Community Centre
- Oasis Immingham
At its heart, the Fair Play programme is about more than just sport—it's about respect, inclusion, and positive behaviour. The "Fair Play" ethos sets clear expectations for how young people engage with each other and with staff, both on and off the pitch. Rather than punishing poor behaviour, the programme uses a supportive approach: young people may be asked to step back and observe, but they are never excluded. This helps build trust, understanding, and a sense of belonging.
Our team includes not only sports coaches but also trained youth workers who provide guidance on a range of issues such as:
- Substance misuse
- Anti-social behaviour
- Crime prevention
- School attendance and achievement
When needed, we work closely with the North East Lincolnshire Council’s street-based team, who can offer tailored one-to-one or group support. Safeguarding is always a top priority, and any serious concerns are addressed immediately.
The sessions are open to all young people, especially those from the local area. Many participants are not currently engaged with other services, while others may be at risk or already involved in the youth justice system. The programme provides a vital opportunity for these young people to:
- Make new friends
- Try new activities
- Build confidence and life skills
- Explore positive alternatives to negative influences
Referrals are welcome, particularly for young people on social care plans (such as CIN or CP), those on Acceptable Behaviour Contracts (ABCs), or those involved in early intervention policing. Where needed, we can help with kit, transport, or other costs to ensure no one is left out.
Every session is a chance to make a difference—and for many young people, it’s the first step toward a brighter future.
