As a professional working with children and young people, you are often the first point of contact for complex conversations.

These free resources are designed to support your work and give evidence-based guidance on sensitive issues like knife crime and healthy relationships. This page also features activity directories for young people in the Humber region.

Use these tools to start open discussions and help the young people you work with stay safe and choose positivity over violence.

Public Health Approach

We use a public health approach in our work - this means seeking to identify the root causes of serious violence and focusing on earlier intervention.

Knife Crime Awareness

Our ‘Breaking the Cycle’ campaign can help you talk to young people about the dangers of carrying weapons and knives. The resources include information on the law regarding knives and offensive weapons, along with activities to prepare for a workshop (either online or in person).

Pol-Ed and Not In Our Community have created educational materials to support young people to stay safe, understand the law and make informed decisions.

The Ben Kinsella Trust - a charity that tackles knife crime through education and campaigning - delivered a webinar for our organisation about the drivers for knife crime and how we can help to reduce it.

How to be a Trusted Adult

When a young person is having a tough time, they will often reach out to a ‘trusted adult’ in their life. These are usually adults who play an active, positive and important role in the community.

If a young person seeks you out as a trusted adult, it can be difficult to know what to do or say. The below resources offer useful advice and support for these potentially tricky conversations.

The Humber and North Yorkshire Health and Care Partnership has also created a handy guide for those who work with children and young people.

Healthy Relationships

Our Anyone. Anywhere. campaign helps young people understand the differences between healthy and unhealthy relationships. The resources include printable posters, lesson modules and social media graphics.

The #JustDont campaign aims to challenge everyday harassment and harmful behaviour faced by women and girls. Along with support services for men's mental wellbeing, the page features resources such as videos, posters and a social media toolkit.

Activities for Young People in the Humber Region

Each local authority has a directory of activities, community groups and events:

The below map shows activities in the Humber region, including sports clubs, art classes and silent discos. Click on the icons to learn more about the programmes. Please note that the listings are not actively updated – check event details with the organisers before joining a session.

Our Projects

We fund targeted, evidence-informed activities to reduce serious violence and its associated harms.

Our interventions are designed to address underlying risk factors, such as adverse childhood experiences, social inequality and lack of opportunity, while also strengthening protective factors within families and communities.
