We work with children and young people, families, schools and community groups to better understand the issues impacting local communities and identify opportunities for positive change.

Through youth voice projects, awareness campaigns, funded interventions and educational programmes, we make sure that local views, experiences and ideas help shape our violence prevention work.

Our Strategic Approach

By combining evidence, partnership working, community insight and lived experience, we focus on understanding the root causes of violence, preventing harm before it occurs and creating safer, healthier communities.

Championing Youth Voice and Activity

Along with funding projects to engage young people in positive activities that reduce violence, we recognise the need to embed youth voice meaningfully and consistently across our work. The programmes below can help you understand and use youth voice in your own organisations and community groups.

Supporting Youth Justice

We work closely with Youth Justice Services across Humberside to better understand the experiences of young people and support approaches that prevent further harm. In addition, we played a key part in the rollout of the Young Futures Panel in Hull by funding, coordinating, shaping and supporting the initiative.

Community Support and Resources

The Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner delivers a range of projects and partnerships that support communities, including grant funding programmes and regional Community Safety Partnerships. They also fund the Not In Our Community website, for which we provided advice and resources to help parents and carers navigate some of the challenges children and young people face today.

Prevention Through Education

Education plays a vital role in violence prevention. The Humber VPP works with schools, education partners and policing teams across Humberside to help create environments where children and young people can learn and thrive.

We also champion Pol-Ed, a free programme developed by West Yorkshire Police to improve young people’s awareness of risks, citizenship and the law.
