"He will push himself out of his comfort zone and I’m looking forward to seeing his confidence grow."

Note: To keep the young person's identity confidential, we refer to them as 'Z' throughout the example below. Any individuals in the header image are for illustrative purposes only and are not the subjects of this case study.

Background

Z first connected with Tigers Trust through their Premier League Kicks. This programme offers free sports sessions across Hull, providing children aged 8-18 with positive activities. It aims to build safer, stronger and more inclusive communities by developing pro-social attitudes.

After making poor choices that led him into criminal activity, Z decided to turn his life around. He re-engaged with the Tigers Together programme, a safe space for adults to take part in football sessions as a way to improve their mental health and wellbeing.

A Clearer Sense of Direction

As Tigers Trust developed a relationship with Z, he was invited to join Tigers Pathways - Exploring Volunteering. He started to set goals and create an action plan for a brighter future. From here, Z was signposted onto the Stay Onside programme.

Through engagement with Tigers Trust on a variety of different programmes, Z had a renewed attitude and a clearer sense of direction. He started helping others with similar lived experiences, guiding them to make better choices and being a positive role model in the local community.

Professional Growth

He also turned his attention to his professional growth by creating a new CV and exploring opportunities in the sports sector.

His first step was volunteering at the Tigers Trust Arena by helping with gardening tasks and cleaning the boot room. Z was soon given the title of ‘Community Champion,' going out of his way to make people feel welcome and assisting coaches.

Career Opportunity

When an Inclusion Delivery Officer role became available at Tigers Trust, Z was encouraged to apply. Having already made a positive impression on the staff, he successfully secured the role.
