Do you work in education or with young people? If so, the Humber Learning Consortium (HLC) would like to hear from you.

We've commissioned HLC to better understand children who are missing education, electivity home educated or not in education, employment or training.

As part of this research, HLC has created a questionnaire to better understand perceptions of:

  • Disproportionally in the system
  • Barriers to entering/re-entering education
  • Reasons for leaving in-person education
  • Mapping the current provision across systems

HLC would also like to conduct semi-structured interviews across the Humber region. They'd like to talk to both young people and their parents/carers about their experiences of:

  • Education in mainstream or alternative provision and home education
  • Other support they are currently receiving from community organisations, social services etc.
  • Experiences of their local area, family background and other environmental factors
  • Life aspirations and career goals
  • What other support would be helpful in returning to education and accessing services

Young people and parents/carers have a choice to be interviewed together or separately, whichever is most appropriate and comfortable for them. Where the child concerned is aged 9 or under, we want to talk to the parent/carer only. This is to avoid unnecessary stress for the child.

If you are interested in shaping our understanding and would like to share your experiences, please contact Norman.Richards@hlc-vol.org
