The Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner (OPCC) for Humberside is launching a bold new Valentine’s Day campaign at Hull, Grimsby and Scunthorpe football grounds to drive home the message that abuse is never acceptable and help is available.
Across February, fans of Scunthorpe United FC, Hull City FC and Grimsby Town FC will see powerful messages on scoreboards, pitch-side displays and posters urging people to seek support, challenge harmful behaviour and look out for others. Materials at matchdays will signpost clear routes to help for both those affected by domestic abuse and those who want to change their behaviour.
The campaign targets three key groups:
- People who harm - encouraging them to take responsibility and access support pathways for behaviour‑change support.
- Bystanders - giving fans and stadium staff the confidence to safely intervene and report concerns.
- Communities - reinforcing that domestic abuse is everyone’s business and collective action saves lives.
Abuse is never acceptable - help is available
Deputy Police and Crime Commissioner Leo Hammond said: “Valentine’s Day should be a day of care and respect. This campaign brings that message into places where communities gather, reminding everyone that abusive behaviour is never acceptable and help is available for people who want to change. We wish to normalise seeking support and to empower bystanders to act so that together we can help prevent harm.”
